Mussolini’s Alfa to be Restored

Italian Fascist dictator Benito Mussolini needs no introduction to observers of recent history, however what is not widely known about “Il Duce” is that he loved his cars, particularly Alfa Romeo. In 1930, he bought a 1929 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 SS Series 3. One of 200 made, it was powered by a double overhead cam straight six engine and flat out could see the far side of 120mph.

Mussolini used it as one of his Roman daily drivers before selling it on in 1937. Today, chassis number 6C0312898 is now the hands of an American owner and is looking a tad worse for wear. It then spent a good portion of its life in Eritrea, East Africa, where it was stripped down and used in local race events. However, it was recently shipped to Thornley Kelham Restorations in the UK. The goal for the owner is simple, restore it to factory fresh.

Only the chassis, engine and gearbox are original, but as we shall hopefully see, the car will be fully restored to when Il Duce drove it hard.
