Wind Back Time
1963 Austin Healey MK2 (BJ7)
Specifications
Description
A beautifully presented 1963 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk II (BJ7), widely regarded as one of the most popular and usable Big Healeys, marking the transition to a more refined yet still highly engaging early-1960s British sports car.
Combining classic open-top motoring appeal with meaningful improvements such as disc brakes, wind-up windows, and greater refinement, the BJ7 retains all the character and presence that define the model, while offering noticeably improved usability on modern roads.
Powered by the strong 3.0-litre straight-six and typically paired with overdrive, it delivers effortless torque, a distinctive exhaust note, and a genuinely rewarding driving experience. Still raw and characterful, yet more civilised than its predecessors, it sits in the sweet spot of the Big Healey range.
A consistently sought-after classic, the BJ7 continues to attract strong collector and enthusiast demand, offering a compelling blend of style, usability, and long-term desirability.

Overall, the BJ7 is widely regarded as one of the best-balanced Big Healeys - classic open-top sports car charm with improved usability and drivability.
These cars sit in a very interesting space in today’s classic market, where appreciation is driven far more by rarity, desirability, and emotional appeal than by pure utility.
Well-kept examples like this continue to show steady long-term value growth, particularly as supply naturally tightens and more cars are either preserved in collections or restored to high standards. Rarity plays a key role, not just in production numbers, but in how many survive today in correct, usable condition. That scarcity, combined with strong brand heritage, supports ongoing demand.
Desirability remains consistently strong, especially for models with the right specification, history, and presentation. Cars that are well sorted and properly maintained tend to attract competitive interest whenever they come to market, reflecting a healthy collector appetite.
Overall, these vehicles are not just appreciating assets, but also highly emotive classics and that combination of driving enjoyment and collectability is what underpins their enduring value and market strength.
