1971 Alfa Romeo GTV 1750

Specifications

Description

The 1971 Alfa Romeo GTV is part of the 105 series lineage.

It was produced between 1967–1972 and is one of Alfa’s most iconic classic coupes.

It’s often called the 1750 GT Veloce, with design by Bertone combining clean 2-door coupe proportions and period Italian flair. This model followed the Giulia Sprint GT, bringing improved handling and slightly more power.

One of the finest sports, pillarless coupes of its era, combining elegant design with mechanical sophistication and an engaging, characterful, driving experience.

Light, responsive, and beautifully balanced, this GTV represents Alfa Romeo at its Golden Best.

ABOUT THIS CAR

  • Chassis: AR1455586
  • Engine: AR00548F7904
  • Stunning Example powered by a 1750cc twin-cam four-cylinder with around 120–135 hp
  • Manual 5-speed gearbox and rear-wheel drive make it engaging and connected to drive.
  • Agile handling, light, precise steering and balanced chassis, reflecting Alfa’s focus on driver engagement.
  • Suspension and braking were advanced for the time (disc brakes all round) which helps it feel more composed than many contemporaries.
  • Classic design and timeless style...this model, especially with a 1750, is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful coupes of the era.
  • Twin-cam engine character, responsive and smooth with a distinctive Italian engine note and involved driving experience; that classic feel, that engagement without modern driver assists.
  • This is a Collectible car and solid examples like this one are increasingly rare and highly valued by enthusiasts and collectors alike.
  • Odometer in Miles - only circa 26689 miles since restoration.
  • This particular example has been long term owned and carefully maintained, with use limited but enthusiastic over the years. It drives very well, presented as a properly sorted classic rather than a static showpiece. Previous owner owned this car for around 25 years. We believe it to be a NZ new vehicle - first registered in New Zealand in 1971, which was comprehensively restored by a previous owner using many NOS  parts. During the last ownership the car was used sparingly. It had gearbox serviced, which we can confirm feels very good. Brakes were periodically serviced with new or rebuilt  cylinders recently.
  • Car drives very well, in our opinion, exactly as it should.
  • Body and paint can best be described as Stunning. The vehicle was recently subjected to a bare metal respray by Classic Passion in Silverdale, Auckland. With paint stripped, the lower sills and bottom of front a rear wings were found to be crudely repaired and with some residual corrosion. As a result, the outer and internal sills and lower wing panels were all replaced with new panels imported from Classic Alfa in UK.
  • Good tires on rare rims.
  • Needless to say, every Alfista knows that the 1750 is the one to own and this example is highly regarded by collectors and drivers alike. A combination of motorsport heritage, everyday usability, and unmistakable Italian charm. Truly, one of the most satisfying classics you can ever own.

This 1971 Alfa Romeo GTV 1750 is a quintessential Italian driver’s car - stylish, evocative, and defined by its timeless period design.

It delivers an engaging, enthusiast-focused driving experience while also being increasingly valuable and collectible. Simply put, it’s a beloved classic, especially for those who appreciate vintage European sports cars.

Historical data shows that GTV values have risen significantly over the past decade, in some cases by 150% or more for the 1750 series since the mid-2010s. What were once relatively modest collectibles have matured into widely recognized classics, with current market trends pointing toward steady, measured appreciation rather than sharp volatility.

Our view is that, unlike stocks or cryptocurrencies, classic car values tend to appreciate gradually, driven by supply, condition, originality, and collector sentiment rather than broader economic cycles. That’s why selecting the right car matters.

The early 105-series Alfa Romeo coupes are strong candidates thanks to their enduring enthusiast appeal, striking Italian design, legendary twin-cam engines, and reputation for a rewarding driving experience. This heritage gives them intrinsic desirability beyond pure speculation.

While the 1971 Alfa Romeo GTV 1750 is not a high-yield speculative asset, it stands out as a well-regarded classic with a loyal global following, increasing rarity, and proven long-term value growth. For investors who also value ownership enjoyment, it represents a compelling long-term tangible asset, particularly when cared for and held with patience rather than pursued for short-term profit.
