Wind Back Time
Rover P5B Coupe 1973
Specifications
Description
For some people, a motorcar must be British and with a portly, dignity and polished patriotism, the P5B became official transport for the establishment.
No modern car maker would have the guts, or the guile, to slice two inches out of the roofline of a saloon and call it a coupé. But that's what Rover did to its P5 saloon in 1962.
The bold move turned an upright and stately conveyance of ministers and company directors into a rakish rival – in looks at least – to a Jaguar. And when Buick's 3.5-litre V8 settled in beneath the bonnet a few years later, the resulting P5B – especially the Coupé – made buyers take a fresh look at staid old Rover.

- A British Motoring Icon
- The Rover P5B was the car of choice for Ministers and officials of the British Government throughout the 1970s, long after official production ended. The P5B was available in two version, a saloon and coupe, and was a development of the P5.
- The coupe version, introduced in 1962, in the later P5B 3.5 litre-specification is a very stylish car, and is one of the Rover Company's most iconic vehicles.
I get into some cars and feel instantly at home and this car's one of them. It's a very easy car to drive with an incredibly smooth ride.
British Motoring at its best. This car is an excellent example. Beautifully maintained and gorgeous car in every respect. Worth noting that one of these sold recently in an auction in Wellington for the extraordinary price of $58K. I should add that condition wise, in my opinion, this one's the better car.
Car will be sold WOF'd and Registered.
