"Good morning Jesmond and Gloria. Just to let you know the Jag is now in Kerikeri. Picked it up from Capital City Ford on Sunday as arranged. They contacted me last Friday to say it was there and that they had given it a wash. (Nice of them). We took the trip North over three days and arrived home last night. Travelled 1000kms with no hitches. Yesterday was a good test for its water tightness as we had periods of torrential rain between Auckland and Kerikeri. No problems at all though. Thanks for the bottle of wine and best regards,"Peter & Pam Scahill, Keri Keri, New Zealand
When the Porsche 944 was released, it was praised by all of the automotive magazines. In some countries, it was even referred to as the best of the best and in the US, it was thought that it would change Porsche enthusiasts attitudes toward the front - engined sports cars.
While that last part never fully happened, it was a very good car in its own right. The earliest cars only offered 143 horsepower, but managed to go from 0 to 50 mph (remember this was the early '80s) in 5.9 seconds versus 5.8 seconds for the 911SC of the time. In 1986 the 944's performance took a real leap with the Turbo model and in 1988 the S2 model was released. This was powered by a 3.0 liter engine that provided nearly the same performance as the early turbocharged models, but without the turbo lag.
