Mercedes Benz SLK 230 Kompressor Carlsson 1997

Specifications

Description

Individualists have special expectations. Of themselves and of the things they surround themselves with. Individualists have their own style and drive cars that give expression to their way of life. Using, for instance, tuned engines, dynamic chassis components and leather upholstery. Carlsson design turns production cars into the individual automobile of ones dreams. This is what one expects in  return when buying a Carlsson.

With the Carlsson SLK –  Carlsson finds ways to personalise the car's interior and exterior and to leave its own unique mark on its dynamism and style.

Carlsson has drawn on its experience in enhancing engine power and the aerodynamics package underscores the car's sporty geometry.

With the SLK, Mercedes-Benz presents what is probably the finest roadster in its history.  Two seats, a long bonnet, short overhangs, an open top and the engine in just the right place.

The SLK is a compact roadster manufactured by Mercedes Benz in three generations; R170 launched in 1996, the R171 in 2004 and R172 in 2011. What we have here is an R170 personalised by Carlsson.

On April 22, 1996, the new production SLK-Class, based on the R170 platform was introduced at the Turin Motor Show. The SLK 230 Kompressor launch model became a competitor to the Porsche Boxter and BMW Z3. It was powered by a 193 hp 2.3 L supercharged straight 4 engine.

The SLK was a modern incarnation of the 1950s Mercedes Benz 190SL by returning to four cylinders and a 94-inch (2,400 mm) wheelbase. Massively successful in its first year, worldwide sales hit 55,000, over double the entire nine-year production of 190SLs, and between 1996 and 2004, over 311,000 SLKs were sold.

Quite possibly, this car may in fact well be the only SLK Carlsson in New Zealand.
