Maserati Bi Turbo V6 Coupe 1987

Specifications

Description

The Maserati Biturbo is a sports car introduced by Maserati in 1981. The Biturbo is a two-door, four-seater notchback coupe featuring, as the name implies, a 2.5ltr V6 engine with two turbochargers and a luxurious interior. The car was designed by Pierangelo Andreani, an engineer from the De Tomaso team.

All Maserati coupe models from the Biturbo's introduction in 1981 until 1997 were based on the original Biturbo architecture. When Alejandro De Tomaso acquired Maserati in 1976, he had ambitious plans for the marque. His plan was to combine the prestige of the Maserati brand with a sports car that would be more affordable than the earlier high-priced models that had traditionally made up the Maserati range.

The Biturbo was a strong seller and brought Italian prestige to a worldwide audience, with sales of about 40,000 units. De Tomaso later sold Maserati to Fiat, who grouped the company with their erstwhile rival Ferrari.

The aluminum 90-degree SOHC V6 engine was roughly based on the 2.0 L Merak engine, itself based on earlier V8 Formula One Maserati engines, designed by Giulio Alfieri. Fuel injection was fitted in 1987 raising power to 187 hp (139 kW).

I am often asked to reveal my favourite car. Having owned four of these beauties, traveled distances, crossed countries and even enjoyed one as a daily driver - the Maserati Bi Turbo ranks VERY HIGH on my ‘favourite car' list.

IMMENSE POWER and the MOST BEAUTIFUL SOUND – these are cars designed with absolute passion. They are comfortable to drive and the most beautiful thing about them is that they are very understated.  A MUST HAVE to every true to the heart car enthusiast.

You can go anywhere with this car without being noticed and I can guarantee that driving this car will bring a smile to even the most depressed soul on the planet but its not for everyone. In the wrong hands, this car is an accident waiting to happen.

Like all of my cars, this is a special car and those who know me by now are well aware that I don't sell my cars to just everyone.

RARE in New Zealand, this car also has some provenance having been owned by a prominent New Zealand figure. I would recommend it to a mature and responsible person looking for something rare and different to drive around town everyday, weekends or special occasions or simply to cruise around with in our beautiful countryside.

STUNNING Motor. VERY GOOD Paint & VERY STRAIGHT Body – NO RUST.  IMMACULATE Interior.

Best described as an EXCEPTIONAL EXAMPLE.
