"Hi Jesmond, I don't know if I told you when we were corresponding that I am member of the South Canterbury Vintage Car Club. Last Saturday the club held one of its more important rallies of the year called the Mid Island Rally. I went in the Austin A55 and was one of about 68 vehicles that went on the run. It had a good showing of vehicles some old model Ts right through the years, the latest one being a 1964 mini. You name the brand of vehicle and it was there. Mine was the only Austin. We had good weather and I understand it was about 180 miles start to finish. It extended from Timaru through to Geraldine and then into a private forest. That was a bit challenging climbing up to the hilltops on roads only made for logging trucks. I was pleased to get back onto tarseal once we were on our way home. As usual I didn't get anywhere in the rally, thats not my luck. Prior to starting off from the Clubrooms they had a Concours display . About a dozen or perhaps eighteen vehicles went in it. I decided to put the A55 in the display. I don't know when the judging took place and we heard nothing until after the placegetters in the actual rally were announced. There was a table of Cups and Certificates being handed out . All went until only one big cup remained. I thought it won't be me because Ive never won one yet and next thing my name came up. I won the 2014 Concours Cup in my class which was (Post War Vintage) Every comment about the A55 on that day was good and she's going well. So there you have it Jesmond,I don't know if any other vehicles you've had have won Concours but now you know at least one has."

      Specifications

      Description

Big Jaguar saloons used to have a wonderful raffish air to them, fine quality leathers and wood trim and the Jaguar XJ8 has taken the basic premise of previous generations and made massive steps forward in many key areas, not least of which is quality.

Although superficially similar to the outgoing XJ6 model, the XJ8 represented the thinking of a new generation of engineers at Jaguar's headquarters in Coventry.

The proportions of the car are wonderfully judged, leading to a Milanese panel of experts voting it  'The Most Beautiful Car In The World', surely a testament to its stylist, the late Geoff Lawson.

The X308 kept much of the same exterior styling as its predecessor, carrying its rounded four-headlamp bonnet, low roofline, sloping tail, and wrap-around rear light clusters and the Jaguar emblem now says all the right things about its driver.

There are XJ8's and there are XJ8's and this modern classic is one of the cleanest, tidiest XJ8's we've ever had. Its in our opinion a simply outstanding, pampered, loved and cherished vehicle.

The target for the Jaguar XJ8 series, namely to remove all of the traditional excuses to buying British, has been achieved with considerable panache.

Drop in behind the wheel of an XJ8 and there's a palpable sense of occasion that's missing in its rivals. Behind the wheel you'll feel like a charmingly roguish bounder rather than a Junior Vice-President. As an ownership proposition, the XJ8 is leagues ahead of its predecessors and they're starting to command good prices. This example should make an elegant addition to any driveway or collection, and will only look better with age.

A good modern classic, that is not only just good value but a vehicle that will appreciate in time.

If you're after a good, trouble free example of one of these, then look no further.
