Ford Model T Light Van 1922

Specifications

Description

The Ford Model T is an automobile that was produced by Henry Ford's Ford Motor Company from 1908 through 1927. It was constructed of the best materials available at that time, with the simplest of designs that engineering could in those days devise and it was also low in price that any one making a good salary was able to afford.

This van is in immaculate condition throughout – a most desirable show piece really.

We understand that this van started its life in the North Island of New Zealand in the Coromandel.

This van's motor is in very good condition. It comes with a 177-cubic-inch (2.9 L) front mounted inline four-cylinder en bloc engine and produces a top speed of 40–45 mph (64–72 km/h).

Rear wheel drive, its transmission is a planetary gear type billed as "three speed". In today's terms it is considered a two-speed, because one of the three speeds is reverse.

Transmission is controlled with three foot pedals and a lever mounted to the road side of the driver's seat. The throttle is controlled with a lever on the steering wheel. The left pedal is used to engage the gear. With the handbrake in either the mid position or fully forward and the pedal pressed and held forward the van enters low gear. When held in an intermediate position the van is in neutral, a state that can also be achieved by pulling the floor-mounted lever to an upright position. If the lever is pushed forward and the driver takes his foot off the left pedal, the van enters high gear, but only when the handbrake lever is fully forward. The van could thus cruise without the driver having to press any of the pedals. There is no separate clutch pedal.

The middle pedal is used to engage reverse gear, and the right pedal operates the transmission brake. The floor lever also controls the parking brake, which is activated by pulling the lever all the way back.

Van comes with kerosene lamps made of brass but also electric lights powered by a battery, generator and starter motor.

Excellent Body with as new paint throughout. We understand the wood to be mainly NZ Kauri wood, which is in excellent condition.

Van comes with brand new tires with wooden spoke wheels. 6V Battery in good condition.

As this is a very special piece of automotive history and also forms part of our NZ heritage, we have no intent to sell it to just anyone. We would in fact prefer to see it go back to the Coromandel, or to a museum and/or to a corporate company / business wanting to show case it for display and/or promotional purposes.

Licence expired 17 years ago. Price Firm and price includes a 12 months registration and brand new WOF unless negotiated otherwise.

SHIPPING / TRANSPORT CAN BE ORGANISED ON BUYER'S BEHALF AT BUYERS COST.

NOTIFICATION AS TO NATURE OF GOODS IN TERMS OF THE CONSUMER GUARANTEES ACT 1993

Waimak Classic Cars Ltd is a New Zealand registered company and accepts that the vehicle being sold must be of “acceptable quality” in terms of section 7 of the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 (the Act) having regard to “the nature of the goods”.

Waimak Classic Cars is not aware of any specific defects with the vehicle, however (a) such a vehicle being a classic vehicle may have mechanical breakdowns, electrical failures at inconvenient times and maintenance costs being part of and parcel of ownership of a classic vehicle; (b) reliability is a combination of the particular nature of the classic vehicle, how it is being driven, how it has been maintained, and to a certain extent luck; (c) because of the age of the vehicle, and its propensity to rust, it is likely that the vehicle would have been fully or partially restored, or at least repainted at some point in its life, maybe even more than once. Waimak Classic Cars does not know, and cannot give advice on how good any restoration work on the vehicle had been.

The Purchaser acknowledges that the vehicle is being sold as a classic car; that in terms of the Act and the nature of the goods, the vehicle is an old car, bike or boat, that may have visual and hidden faults, unlike a new motor vehicle.

The Purchaser is encouraged to personally fully inspect the vehicle and also to have the vehicle inspected, and fully assessed by an experienced, independent, specialist garage - before committing to purchase. While the Purchaser is entitled to rely on statements given by Waimak Classic Cars as being correct, where goods such as vehicles are concerned, with so many moving parts and rust being an issue with older vehicles; a Purchaser who chooses not to seek independent professional assistance when assessing the quality of what they propose to buy is considered as buying at their own risk, and if the vehicle then turns out to be of less than the represented quality, or not up to the Purchaser's expectation, or in the Purchaser opinion not fit for purpose; then the Purchaser is considered to have contributed to their own loss and should not expect any refunds or betterment from Waimak Classic Cars.

The Purchaser acknowledges that they have read and fully understand this notification and the nature of a car which is many years old.
