2008 Fiat 500

Specifications

Description

The original Fiat 500, often called the Cinquecento (500 in Italian) was a tiny car that was a large hit when introduced in 1957, so it remained on the market for close to 20 years.

Following the success of the modern Mini, it came as no surprise that the bosses at Fiat decided to have a go at a similar concept. This resulted in the launch of a retro-look but all-new Fiat 500 in 2007, exactly 50 years after the original and styling to match the earlier 500s was admired by all.

The new Fiat 500 is often still called the Cinquecento despite it having a range of engine sizes, all of them well over 500cc. It's a couple of sizes up on the old 500, partly to provide crash protection in the way of crumple zones and anti-intrusion bars, but also to give it reasonable interior space.

ABOUT THIS CAR

  • A Mint Example.
  • The engine starts easily and idles relatively smoothly from the moment it kicks over.
  • Interior is extremely tidy and pretty well bulletproof.
  • Straight dent free body - good paint
  • Good tires
  • Lovely car to drive
  • Imported from Japan in 2017.
  • Only two owners in NZ

This car is packed with delicious design details. There's a very well-judged blend of retro chic and ruthlessly modern contemporary design inside, with circular head restraints and iconic 500 badging on the Panda-sourced dashboard. The exterior treatment is cool and clean with only the front grille and door handles differing significantly from the Trepiuno show car. Hats off to Fiat in this regard. So often we see cars that look fantastic as prototypes on a show stand only to arrive in production form virtually unrecognisable.

Creating a small car that doubles as a fashion accessory isn't easy but if you've got a classic model that can be raided for retro design cues and evoke public nostalgia, you're halfway there.

The Fiat 500 is an impressive piece of work by Fiat.

Will be sold WOF'd and Registered.
