Specifications
Description
Created to celebrate Dodge’s role as the official truck of the 1996 Indianapolis 500, the Dodge Ram Indy 500 Special Edition brings together two unmistakable American icons: the legendary Brickyard and the bold, second-generation Ram pickup. Finished in striking Viper Blue with contrasting white racing stripes, it was designed to stand out from the moment it arrived.
Its muscular styling, distinctive Indy 500 graphics and unmistakable crosshair grille perfectly capture the confidence of 1990s Dodge. This was no ordinary workhorse, it was a limited-production performance-inspired pickup built during an era when American manufacturers were rediscovering the excitement of special-edition trucks.
Nearly three decades later, the Indy Ram has become a fascinating modern collectible. Rarely encountered in New Zealand, this example offers presence, practicality and genuine motorsport heritage, a distinctive piece of Indianapolis history with all the attitude of a classic American pickup.

Today, the 1996 Dodge Ram Indy 500 Special Edition is a genuinely rare sight, particularly in New Zealand, where very few will ever have found their way. Its limited-production heritage, unmistakable Viper Blue and white racing stripes, and connection to the Indianapolis 500 give it a level of collector appeal that an ordinary pickup simply cannot match. As interest grows in distinctive performance trucks from the 1990s, examples with this presence and provenance are becoming increasingly desirable.
Yet this is not a vehicle that belongs hidden away. It feels perfectly at home in New Zealand, where country roads, country music, open landscapes and country communities still appreciate a proper V8 pickup. The deep, effortless character of its 5.9-litre Magnum V8 suits the environment beautifully, strong, relaxed and honest, with that unmistakable American soundtrack accompanying every journey through the high country.
Above all, the Indy Ram reflects the values country people understand: strength, practicality, individuality and pride of ownership. It is bold without pretending to be anything it is not; a useful truck with genuine heritage and tremendous personality. Rare enough to preserve, capable enough to enjoy and distinctive enough to be remembered, this is an American icon made for a New Zealand country way of life.
