Testimonials

"I have had a yearning to purchase a vintage or classic car for a number of years and have read Classic Car magazines and trolled internet auction sites until I came to the Waimak Classic Cars Web site. There was a certain classic car listed that was very close to marque and vintage of my first car I ever owned. It was early 50s English favourite. I contacted Jesmond by email as an initial inquiry and he responded promptly and gave me background of the vehicle in addition to what was described on the web site. Obviously an inspection was vital. With then roading problems between Marlborough and Canterbury a convenient time to visit Waimak was agreed given we decided to include a family visit to CHCH to coincide Jesmond was extremely flexible and agreed to meet us in Rangiora to take us to his display site. It certainly was a pleasure to meet both Jesmond and Gloria and it was clear from the outset we were dealing with very good honest and genuine people. We did not purchase the vehicle of initial choice. Whilst a lovely car heart was not where the head was. It just would not fit in my garages! After inspecting and admiring many fine examples we fell in love with a rare for NZ near finished restored 1947 Rover P2. The purchase including a service plus up to date warrant and registration was completed and Gloria arranged the transport of the vehicle to us here in Blenheim. I could not fault the professionalism coupled with warm friendly attitude of both Jesmond and Gloria and strongly commend them to anyone seeking a purchase and or sale of their classic car. Post purchase communication and advice was excellent."

      Description

When introduced in 1979, the Jaguar XJ6 Series III was not immediately to everyone's liking.

Despite an expensive redesign with its Pininfarina styled roof, and refreshed cabin, some Big Cat enthusiasts felt that it was taking liberties with the classic looks of one of their favourites.

In fact, the Series III set out to rectify some of the deficiencies of the Series II, and was better equipped for everyday use, but you had to try one to find that out. In addition to new body panels, the new model had an increased amount of glass, and a much-needed additional 3 inch of headroom in the back - great if you're being chauffered!

External differences included flush door handles, vertical grille bars, revised 'Gothic' rear lamp clusters, and impact bumpers with decorative chrome along their top edges.

After early doubts were allayed, the Series III established itself as one of the best Jaguars of all time, with the injected 4.2-litre coming out as the pick of the crop. In its review of June 1980, Car and Driver magazine described the Series III as being as 'slick as the inside of Faye Dunaway's dressing gown' - and one can't be fairer than that!

      ABOUT THIS CAR

      • This is arguably, one of the best, original Jaguar XJ6 Ser 3's in New Zealand.
      • Mint Condition throughout.
      • Matching Numbers Car.
      • Low Mileage. Sold new by Archibalds and Shorter in New Zealand. Very good provenance.
      • Low Mileage - three owners from new - one previous owner for 30 years.
      • Beautiful straight, rust free body with immaculate mostly original paintwork.
      • Runs like a swiss watch - so smooth to drive. Six-cylinder engines are tough and can rack up six-figure mileages easily with good maintenance.
      • That 'gentleman's club' feel of the cab interior is wonderful and the leather seats and door trim have been well looked after. The cost of restoring or making a car like this look right can easily exceed that of mechanical considerations - and it will never be original.
      • This would, honestly, have to be one of the nicest examples in New Zealand - we can't stress that enough.
      • A pleasure to drive. Firm & Tight, no rattles or noises of any sort.
      • Good quality newish, white wall tires.
      • All electrics work as they should including sunroof, cruise control and air condition.
      • Maintenance records available - otherwise services have been regular.
      • Jack, tools, spare wheel with car
      • Boot is like its never been used, as is pretty much the interior and the rest of the car.

Jaguar luxury has been a legend for generations and the Series 3 advances that beautiful reality. Dollar for dollar, this is still one of the best luxury cars Jaguar ever built.
