Testimonials

"I have had a yearning to purchase a vintage or classic car for a number of years and have read Classic Car magazines and trolled internet auction sites until I came to the Waimak Classic Cars Web site. There was a certain classic car listed that was very close to marque and vintage of my first car I ever owned. It was early 50s English favourite. I contacted Jesmond by email as an initial inquiry and he responded promptly and gave me background of the vehicle in addition to what was described on the web site. Obviously an inspection was vital. With then roading problems between Marlborough and Canterbury a convenient time to visit Waimak was agreed given we decided to include a family visit to CHCH to coincide Jesmond was extremely flexible and agreed to meet us in Rangiora to take us to his display site. It certainly was a pleasure to meet both Jesmond and Gloria and it was clear from the outset we were dealing with very good honest and genuine people. We did not purchase the vehicle of initial choice. Whilst a lovely car heart was not where the head was. It just would not fit in my garages! After inspecting and admiring many fine examples we fell in love with a rare for NZ near finished restored 1947 Rover P2. The purchase including a service plus up to date warrant and registration was completed and Gloria arranged the transport of the vehicle to us here in Blenheim. I could not fault the professionalism coupled with warm friendly attitude of both Jesmond and Gloria and strongly commend them to anyone seeking a purchase and or sale of their classic car. Post purchase communication and advice was excellent."

      Description

Early Jaguar XJs are enjoying a surge in popularity, but if you want the best then it has to be a Series 1!

Straight from the 1968 launch of Sir William Lyons's final masterpiece, it was recognised as the best car in the world.

Forty years on and arguably the XJ6 was the last true world-beating saloon to roll out of Browns Lane. When it finally surfaced in 1968 it broke the mould for prestige saloons, not just matching its class peers but redefining the sector altogether – a feat even the latest all aluminum XJ and the excellent XF have failed to copy.

The XJ6 was the last true ‘all new' model from Jaguar - if you overlook the fact that the well evolved XK engine was by then 20 years old, and the suspension set-up had been refined through its bulky predecessor, the Mk X/420G...but that's stuff to debate down the pub - what isn't in question is that the XJ is still an amazingly modern and competent luxury sports saloon that – when compared to Mk1/Mk2s–represents astonishing value for money - just like it did back when it was launched in 1968!

      ABOUT THIS CAR

      • In Immaculate Order Throughout
      • Most beautiful colour combination - Regency Red with tan leather.
      • Paintwork is deep and beautiful.
      • The interior is immaculate. Beautiful woodwork and chrome dials.
      • This car was restored in 1998 - photos available.
      • This is an awesome example of an XJ6 model with circa 9 owners from new (one for 25 years) amongst traders.
      • Runs and drives beautifully - engine reconditioned in 1998 (circa 45K kms ago) - just been serviced.
      • We can hardly find these cars anymore today, let alone one in this condition.
      • Lots of provenance i.e.: servicing / maintenance records.
      • STUNNING CAR!

Fact remains that these Jaguars were noted for their grace, pace and space and there is a reason why Jaguar has stuck with the XJ nomenclature for its finest saloon 40 years on: rarely can a car have been so ahead of its class as the XJ was with the Series I.

And for those still beguiled by the cat, it is satisfying to see moderns once more worthy of the Jaguar XJ badge. For years they were bought by retired gents who had them when new. Now they are gaining a real following among younger buyers and just as recent XJ's have revived, so has interest in early cars.

They are the perfect classic: characterful yet civilised to drive.

No doubt – the Series 1 is the purist's choice.
