"I have had a yearning to purchase a vintage or classic car for a number of years and have read Classic Car magazines and trolled internet auction sites until I came to the Waimak Classic Cars Web site. There was a certain classic car listed that was very close to marque and vintage of my first car I ever owned. It was early 50s English favourite. We did not purchase the vehicle of initial choice. Whilst a lovely car heart was not where the head was. It just would not fit in my garages! After inspecting and admiring many fine examples we fell in love with a rare for NZ near finished restored 1947 Rover P2. The purchase including a service plus up to date warrant and registration was completed and Gloria arranged the transport of the vehicle to us here in Blenheim. I could not fault the professionalism coupled with warm friendly attitude of both Jesmond and Gloria and strongly commend them to anyone seeking a purchase and or sale of their classic car.       If the idea of a compact six appealed and you didn’t have a huge budget, the GTR was the perfect starting point.

      These Torana's were effectively a stretched Vauxhall, albeit with a lot of redevelopment sunk into it, to not only cope with our local roads, but to accept an inline six power plant.

      And that was the key, all of a sudden we’re talking about a compact coupe with a full-size sedan’s engine shoe-horned into the nose.

      By other standards, a 161ci (2.6lt) engine is hardly something calculated to strike fear into the heart of the driver. but, at the time, it was a serious statement that this is a performance car to be taken seriously.

      • This vehicle bearing the PSN - J214438 - was originally manufactured at GM-H's Elizabeth, Adelaide plant as a painted and hand trimmed GTR Torana Body. This was then assembled into a finished car and completed on 11'03/1970 at GM'-H's Dandenong, Melbourne assembly plant. A Lengthy delay of more tan 3 weeks was experienced during final assembly and export preparation. The Vehicle was shipped direct to Trentham plant as a GM-H NZ factory import.

      The Holden Torana is an Australian car that started as a compact family car in 1967 and ended up becoming a very successful race and rally car after undergoing some modifications with the introduction of the LC GTR-XU1 in 1970.

      Yes, it was the LC-series Torana that put the model on the map. It was an instant hit with the public, with nearly 75,000 sold between 1969 and 1982. During that decade, the Torana LC GTR-XU1 achieved Australian legendary status, having garnered many victories in rallying and circuit racing, and every hoon in the Land Down Under dreamed of owning one.

      Waimak Classic Cars is not aware of any specific defects with the vehicle, however (a) such a vehicle being a classic vehicle may have mechanical breakdowns, electrical failures at inconvenient times and maintenance costs being part of and parcel of ownership of a classic vehicle; (b) reliability is a combination of the particular nature of the classic vehicle, how it is being driven, how it has been maintained, and to a certain extent luck; (c) because of the age of the vehicle, and its propensity to rust, it is likely that the vehicle would have been fully or partially restored, or at least repainted at some point in its life, maybe even more than once.
