Testimonials

"Hi Jesmond, I don't know if I told you when we were corresponding that I am member of the South Canterbury Vintage Car Club. Last Saturday the club held one of its more important rallies of the year called the Mid Island Rally. I went in the Austin A55 and was one of about 68 vehicles that went on the run. It had a good showing of vehicles some old model Ts right through the years, the latest one being a 1964 mini. You name the brand of vehicle and it was there. Mine was the only Austin. We had good weather and I understand it was about 180 miles start to finish. It extended from Timaru through to Geraldine and then into a private forest. That was a bit challenging climbing up to the hilltops on roads only made for logging trucks. I was pleased to get back onto tarseal once we were on our way home. As usual I didn't get anywhere in the rally, thats not my luck. Prior to starting off from the Clubrooms they had a Concours display . About a dozen or perhaps eighteen vehicles went in it. I decided to put the A55 in the display. I don't know when the judging took place and we heard nothing until after the placegetters in the actual rally were announced. There was a table of Cups and Certificates being handed out . All went until only one big cup remained. I thought it won't be me because Ive never won one yet and next thing my name came up. I won the 2014 Concours Cup in my class which was (Post War Vintage) Every comment about the A55 on that day was good and she's going well. So there you have it Jesmond,I don't know if any other vehicles you've had have won Concours but now you know at least one has."

      Description

In 1961, Ford began a complete redesign on the Zephyr, under the title of ‘Project Panda’.

In November 1966 the manufacturers announced a plan to introduce an "export special" version of the Zephyr Mk IV combining the 3-litre engine of the Zodiac with other specifications largely following those of the existing Zephyr.

This three-litre model was quickly adopted by Ford New Zealand, which had originally launched the Mk IV Zephyr assembled locally from CKD kits with the 2.5-litre V6 (no Zephyr 4 this time) and received complaints it was under powered for a country where towing boats and caravans was common. Ford New Zealand also introduced optional floor shift and bucket seats as an alternative to the standard column shift and bench front seat and a large number of Zephyrs were built in this form, with other modifications, for New Zealand's traffic police.

      ABOUT THIS CAR

      • This is a nice old car , one family owned for 42 years - pretty much a one owner car most of its life.
      • Lovely retro colours and just a good , genuine old car.
      • 3 litre V6 so a lot more reliable than the smaller V6 engine that was always breaking down, it hasn’t got over the top miles .
      • Beautifully restored vehicle - a most popular NZ Classic - we all had one.
      • Very straight body with awesome paintwork
      • Original interior in great condition
      • Car runs and drives really well
      • This Zephyr is a mint old school cruiser. Amazing the number of people stopping and talking to me about it and you're guaranteed to get heaps of looks.
      • It runs mint with that classy Zephyr note.
      • A really nice piece of Kiwiana for your man shed.

These cars are rare and collectible and one in this condition is not something we come across too often. It is a very honest, original example that if you're into these, you shouldn't miss out on.
