"It is with great pleasure I share my thoughts on the team at Waimak Classic Cars. It is a rare moment in a person’s life when they can honestly say that someone has gone above and beyond what was expected of them. What a journey it has been to take possession of my beloved 1959 Sunbeam Alpine. From the get-go, Jesmond and Gloria have been truly professional, honest, trustworthy and honorable. They have not only delivered a beautiful car that runs like a dream but have renewed my faith in humanity. It was Jesmond who encouraged me to fly down and view the car, spending an entire day answering my multitude of questions as I gradually gathered the information I needed to be confident about the purchase. There was never any hint of pressure, only gentle assurance that Waimak’s ethos and excellent reputation was a complete reflection of the team’s long-held passion for high quality classic cars. In the background, Gloria efficiently set up the transportation logistics-her emails always prompt, positive and clear. Then what an absolute joy to finally receive the car in mint condition, start it up, and take it on the ultimate road trip-530kms across the Southern Alps under cloudless blue skies. I felt like the luckiest man alive! I would recommend Waimak to anyone who is considering a classic car purchase. You will be in the best and safest hands possible."Stewart, Auckland, New Zealand
The Daimler V8 was the result of a lengthy plan to give Daimler a presence in the executive car sector as well as the luxury sector.
The first attempt to bridge this gap was a joint venture with Vauxhall, which would have led to a restyled PA Cresta with a Daimler V8 and trim. The Jaguar buyout of 1960 put paid to this, and in 1962 the 2.5 V8 saloon was created.
The Turner engine gives the whole car a very different, more louche feel than the sporting Jaguars, and as such appealed to different customers when new and on the classic market.
Daimler’s small 2.5 V8, was designed by Edward Turner of Triumph motorbike fame. Inspired in part by the contemporary Cadillac V8, he incorporated many of the design features seen in his motorbike engines; including hemispherical combustion chambers and pushrods, with an overhead valve layout. Developing 140bhp, this engine was also used in the Daimler SP250 sports car – and is the reason the Daimler is seen as a separate entity to the Jaguars.

- Still on Original black plates.
- Mechanically sound and motor reconditioned by Messrs John Finlay Motors in Christchurch - car runs and drives great - in fact one of the nicest we've ever driven.
- This is a beautiful car in pretty much factory condition - has really nice patina. In our opinion, it is too good an original car to restore, so we decided to leave it as it is and let someone else decide how far to go with it. We are happy to assist with restoration if one wants to restore it but honestly, its worth leaving as it is.
Whilst prices for good Jags spiral ever higher, one can burble along in a Daimler V8 feeling just as pleased about life, but at a fraction of the cost.
The trim level is higher than the MK2, too – when the 240 and 340 received Ambla trim, the Daimler V8-250 was never subjected to such indignities. They might not be as sporting – but let’s be honest, few MK2s are ever really driven in anger any more.
This is a VERY WELL PRICED car and they're only Original once.
Will be sold WOF'd and Registered if sold in New Zealand.
