Wind Back Time
1965 Ferrari 330 GT V12 Series 1
Specifications
Description
Look at this Ferrari....Beautiful, isn’t it?
Some fast cars owe their performance to very large American engines, others to the work of tuning specialists, but the Ferraris offered for sale to ordinary people are in a category of their own. Built by a company which has been race-orientated for many years, they are to be regarded competition cars “cooled off” a little for docility and comfort on the roads.
The main advantage is that nothing mechanical is stretched or strained; on the contrary, there is plenty in hand. Thus the 330GT coupe, is always comfortably within its performance potential, and its behaviour at speed is impeccable. One of Pininfarina’s most practical bodies. A big and roomy car, the 1965 Ferrari 330GT is compact and sporty.
ABOUT THIS CAR
- Chassis #: 7291
- Engine # 209
- It is an all matching numbers example in perfect running order.
- This 1965 highly collectable investment Ferrari 330 GT 2+2, Series one, 4 litre V12, 5 speed is one of 50 RHD cars of the 503 cars produced. Of the 50 RHD cars there would be probably 20 cars left after the ravages of time. It is in immaculate condition and has recently undergone a complete restoration/repaint back to the original colour, Grigio Fumo/Grey.
- Shod with new period correct Pirelli Tyres over original Borrani wheel rims. Disk brakes all round.
- The cream leather interior is fully restored and is immaculate. Its also very well equipped and finished in quiet good taste. An elaborate heating system and separate adjustable fresh-air ducts in the middle of the instrument panel, pins extractor rear windows, provide a variety of hot and cold air flows.
- The car was ordered into the UK By Maranello Concessionaires for a period of four years and then exported to Australia where it underwent a full body off restoration (including mechanials, motor etc) by Gary Dubois & Co of Melbourne, Australia (circa 1996) plus comes with full ownership and mileage history and recent servicing has been carried out by Auto Restorations in Christchurch.
- Also comes with very desirable/collectable tool kit.
- The 65 Ferrari 330 GT was Enzo's favourite car. I too think of this GT as one of my favourite Ferrari's of all time - you feel classy from the moment you step into a 330.
- There’s just the right amount of wood and leather to say bespoke, the gauges and dashboard wouldn’t be out of place on a race car and, unlike modern Ferraris, the prancing horse logo is more subtly disposed around the cabin.
- The Nardi steering wheel is a pencil-thin wood item common to the era – the concept of padding, let alone an airbag, not even a glimmer in Enzo Ferrari’s eye. Even the audio system is pure art.
- That sloping roof line, those deep-dish Borrani wire wheels are purely sexy – and under that long bonnet, you can hear that screaming V12. As with all classics — Ferraris especially — the engine’s the thing. This big 4.0-litre symphonic “Colombo” V12 starts at the first twist-and-push of the starter, fairly bellowing to life like it’s itching to get to the Targa Florio.
This most elegant car can best be described as an exciting thoroughbred with a certainty that it would become even more satisfying as time and miles passes in its company.
This Ferrari meets all aspect of a purebred prancing horse should: An exceptional design, admittedly by Pininfarina, and the classic front-engined Ferrari lay-out with colombo-V12-engine. This latter is an absolute icon in terms of engines, which produces a symphony and a performance that is reachable at all revs! After a drive in this 330 GT you will get why! Ultimately, you can do excellent on a rally the one day, and going out with your family the other day!
