Arguably, this would be the best looking T-Type in New Zealand!
Only 9,600 TF's were produced. This is Number 9,312. One of the last.
The TF 1500 was only produced for one year and only 3,400 were made and of these only a handful were RHD.
We are not sure of the accuracy of the number but it has been suggested that only 460 were RHD. This is one of those, so it is quite rare. We believe that the car was shipped to Cyprus when new and was purchased there by the owner from whom the last owner bought the car. The First Owner was a UK serviceman. He returned the car back to the UK in 1963, so it has had only two UK owners. Last Owner bought the car in 1971 when he was 25-yrs old.
And here's the thing...how often does one come across a rare car like this, that has been pretty much in the same ownership since new, and that has been meticulously restored and cherished for all these years?

PROVENANCE
Only two UK owners from new!
Last owner since 1971 (for the past 52 years) who brought the car to NZ when he emigrated. Always cherished.
Absolutely Stunning in scarlet red livery with a beige interior. One of a limited number of UK new RHD cars. Fully original with matching numbers.
Original UK log books & Registration documents plus a lot of receipts.
Back in the 1970's, this car competed regularly in UK MG Car Club events. It was one of a team of 3-cars from the SW Centre that won the California Cup at Silverstone. Car was imported to NZ when the last owner emigrated and has undergone a complete and thorough body-off nut and bolt rebuild, that included all of the following, and more:
- Chassis repaint
- Naylor Bros new ash frame and re-skin.
- Full body panel repaint prior to assembly in Scarlet Red with beige piping.
- All chrome re-chromed including wind screen surround.
- New windscreen glass and rubbers
- New seats in Connolly leather in Biscuit beige
- New interior trim in Biscuit beige
- New Carpets in black
- Engine Rebore. New pistons and rings.
- Crank-grind with new main bearings and big ends.
- Cylinder head re-surfaced and valve seats fitted with new hardened seats and valve guides
- New oil pump.

- SU Carburettors rebuilt
- Reconditioned dynamo

UPGRADES
- Engine crankshaft seal modification and upgrade with modern elliptical crankshaft seals to both front and rear end
- Unleaded petrol cylinder head modification with hardened valve seats and guides
- Front suspension upgrade with Koni telescopic front shock absorbers
- Anti-sway bar fitted to front suspension. Reduces body roll.

- Certified Lap belts to comply with NZ regulations
Worth noting is that the engine was originally rebuilt by MG Specialists Brown & Gammons in the UK, who also did the crankshaft oil seal modification. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, these oil seals failed almost immediately and the engine suffered oil leaks from both the front and rear of the crankshaft. This necessitated the engine removal and a strip down once again. This was undertaken & completed by Auto Restorations here in Christchurch. It revealed that the seals had disintegrated. It is suspected that they were dry fitted and not lubricated on assembly as should have been done. Since this was remediation work it cannot be classed as improvements and unfortunately it cannot realistically be reflected in the asking price.
Needless to say, whilst this work was being undertaken other things came to light that in the interests of perfection required attention. All work is detailed on the Auto Restoration invoices. It includes new windscreen glass and re-chrome of the windscreen surround. It also included re-coating of the exhaust and inlet manifolds and more. Arguably, at least some of this additional work is enhancements that might be reasonably reflected in the asking price as it adds to the condition and overall appeal of the car.
Meanwhile, werhave checked the recent Auto Restoration's invoices. These amount to NZ$ 17,073.76 In addition, we have an invoice for NZ$1,215.55 for fitting lap seat belts. This recent expenditure of NZ$18,289.31 is additional to the cost of the rebuild.
ONLY 169 MILES SINCE ENGINE REBUILD!
Always admired wherever she goes, we actually doubt that there are many genuine factory RHD TF 1500 cars in NZ. We have looked at RHD cars for sale in the UK. Most are Ex-California restorations and many have had cosmetic restorations but still with mechanical mileage. Whereas, in contrast, this car has also been thoroughly mechanically refurbished and has done minimal mileage since the refurbishment and is presented in immaculate order.
Probably the best or one of the best in NZ. It should provide many miles of enjoyable classic car motoring.

Waimak Classic Cars is not aware of any specific defects with the vehicle, however (a) such a vehicle being a classic vehicle may have mechanical breakdowns, electrical failures at inconvenient times and maintenance costs being part of and parcel of ownership of a classic vehicle; (b) reliability is a combination of the particular nature of the classic vehicle, how it is being driven, how it has been maintained, and to a certain extent luck; (c) because of the age of the vehicle, and its propensity to rust, it is likely that the vehicle would have been fully or partially restored, or at least repainted at some point in its life, maybe even more than once. Waimak Classic Cars does not know, and cannot give advice on how good any restoration work on the vehicle had been.
The Purchaser acknowledges that the vehicle is being sold as a classic car; that in terms of the Act and the nature of the goods, the vehicle is an old car, bike or boat, that may have visual and hidden faults, unlike a new motor vehicle.
The Purchaser is encouraged to personally fully inspect the vehicle and also to have the vehicle inspected, and fully assessed by an experienced, independent, specialist garage - before committing to purchase. While the Purchaser is entitled to rely on statements given by Waimak Classic Cars as being correct, where goods such as vehicles are concerned, with so many moving parts and rust being an issue with older vehicles; a Purchaser who chooses not to seek independent professional assistance when assessing the quality of what they propose to buy is considered as buying at their own risk, and if the vehicle then turns out to be of less than the represented quality, or not up to the Purchaser's expectation, or in the Purchaser opinion not fit for purpose; then the Purchaser is considered to have contributed to their own loss and should not expect any refunds or betterment from Waimak Classic Cars.
