SS Cars was a British manufacturer of sports saloon cars from 1934 until wartime 1940, and from March 1935, of a limited number of open two-seater sports cars

The company was founded by William Walmsley and William Lyons. From September 1935, their new models displayed a new name - SS Jaguar. By then, its business, which was founded in 1922, was run by and largely owned by William Lyons.

Under the guidance of William Lyons, the company survived the great depression years of the 1930's by making a series of beautifully styled cars, offering exceptional value for money.

The first of the SS range of cars available to the public was the 1932 SS1 with 2litre or 2 1/5 litre side valve, six cylinder engine and the SS2 with a four cylinder 1-litre side valve engine.

The 1934 SS 1 Tourer is a charming, elegant pre-war roadster that combines classic British coach building with refined simplicity. These cars are super rare today and good surviving examples are prized, and fully restored. This car represents an early chapter in Jaguar’s lineage: luxurious, sporty, but accessible for its time.

It's very much a pre-war “wind-in-your-hair” tourer: open-top, seating for four, with sweeping fenders and elegant coachwork - all hinting at the design language that would later influence the SS 100 and later Jaguars.
