Replacing the traditional S-Type, the XF represented a dramatic departure from Jaguar’s established styling, introducing a sleek, contemporary design while retaining the elegance, refinement and sporting character for which the marque had long been celebrated. Among the most desirable models in the original XF range was the Super V8, a sophisticated high-performance luxury saloon that combined exceptional comfort with exhilarating performance.
At the heart of the Jaguar XF Super V8 lies a formidable 4.2-litre supercharged V8 engine, producing an impressive 416bhp (420PS) and delivering its power through a smooth six-speed automatic transmission. Capable of accelerating from 0 -100km/h in approximately 5.4 seconds, the Super V8 offered genuine sports car performance in the refined surroundings of a luxury executive saloon. Its effortless power delivery, composed handling and unmistakable supercharged V8 soundtrack made it a particularly rewarding Jaguar to drive, whether cruising on the open road or enjoying more spirited motoring.
Inside, the XF Super V8 showcased Jaguar’s determination to combine traditional British craftsmanship with modern innovation. Beautifully appointed leather upholstery, genuine wood veneers and a host of luxury features complemented a distinctive contemporary dashboard, complete with Jaguar’s innovative rotary gear selector and rotating air vents. Today, these early supercharged XF models represent an interesting chapter in Jaguar’s modern history, offering a compelling combination of understated elegance, remarkable performance and everyday usability. As Jaguar continues its transition towards an entirely different generation of motor cars, the 2008 XF Super V8 stands as a fine reminder of an era when the marque’s character was defined by powerful petrol engines, exceptional refinement and the unmistakable appeal of a supercharged Jaguar V8.

About this Vehicle
This is where performance meets pure sophistication. The 2008 Jaguar XF Super V8 represents a remarkable combination of British craftsmanship, contemporary styling and exhilarating performance. Beneath its beautifully sculpted bonnet lies a formidable 4.2-litre supercharged V8 engine, producing an impressive 420PS and delivering its power through a superbly refined six-speed automatic transmission. Engineered not simply to go fast, but to make every journey an occasion, the Super V8 offers a driving experience that is unmistakably Jaguar.
Jaguar’s celebrated design director, Ian Callum, had long sought to restore the marque to its former glory, an era when Jaguar produced some of the most beautiful and desirable motor cars in the world. Think of the legendary E-Type, the elegant Mark 2 and the original XJ saloons. With the introduction of the XF, Callum and his team delivered a dramatic new design direction, successfully blending Jaguar’s distinguished heritage with a thoroughly modern sporting identity. The result was a luxury performance saloon that challenged the established German competition while retaining a character and individuality all of its own.
Behind the wheel, the XF Super V8 is every bit as impressive as its appearance suggests. Effortless acceleration, beautifully balanced handling and the unmistakable growl of a supercharged Jaguar V8 combine to deliver a truly rewarding driving experience. The car’s remarkable composure is perhaps its greatest achievement. Even when driven enthusiastically, it remains reassuringly stable through corners, with excellent traction and a wonderfully compliant ride. Few performance saloons manage to combine such impressive acceleration and handling with this level of refinement and comfort.
Performance & Driving Experience
- 4.2-litre Supercharged V8: Producing 420PS (414bhp), delivering effortless acceleration and an exhilarating driving experience.
- Six-Speed ZF Automatic Transmission: Renowned for its smooth, responsive gear changes, even under hard acceleration.
- Outstanding Performance: Capable of accelerating from 0–100km/h in approximately 5.4 seconds.
- Dynamic Driving Character: Responsive throttle, sporting transmission characteristics and sophisticated suspension tuning combine to deliver an engaging driving experience.
- Exceptional Roadholding: Excellent stability, reassuring traction and precise handling, even when driven enthusiastically.
- Refined Touring Capability: A beautifully composed ride that makes long-distance motoring as enjoyable as spirited driving.
- Distinctive V8 Soundtrack: The unmistakable growl of Jaguar’s supercharged V8 adds another dimension to the driving experience.
Luxury, Craftsmanship & Comfort
Step inside and you are greeted by a sanctuary of British craftsmanship. Beautifully appointed leather upholstery, polished wood veneers and brushed aluminium detailing create an atmosphere of understated luxury, while the contemporary dashboard seamlessly blends traditional materials with modern technology. The distinctive rotary gear selector, rotating air vents and thoughtfully arranged controls were revolutionary features when the XF first appeared, reinforcing Jaguar’s determination to create something genuinely different.
One characteristic that has remained consistent throughout Jaguar’s history is the wonderful sensation of sitting deep within the car, rather than simply upon it. The XF retains this distinctive sporting character, with its low-set driving position and enveloping cockpit creating an unusually intimate connection between driver and machine. It is a quality more commonly associated with dedicated sports cars from manufacturers such as Porsche and Ferrari than with a luxurious four-door saloon.
Exterior Design & Presence
- Beautifully sculpted bodywork designed under the direction of celebrated Jaguar stylist Ian Callum.
- Sleek, flowing roofline giving the XF its distinctive sporting silhouette.
- Purposeful front-end styling featuring Jaguar’s prominent mesh grille.
- Elegant proportions combining the presence of a luxury saloon with the character of a sporting grand tourer.
- Subtle performance-oriented detailing, reflecting the Super V8’s impressive capabilities without unnecessary extravagance.
- A distinctive and timeless design that continues to look remarkably contemporary.

The combination of effortless supercharged power, refined road manners and beautifully appointed surroundings makes this a Jaguar that can be enjoyed on virtually any occasion.

Market Review
The Jaguar XF Super V8 occupies an interesting position in the modern performance car market, representing an era when prestigious manufacturers competed to deliver ever-greater levels of performance, luxury and refinement. While its German contemporaries often commanded the spotlight, Jaguar offered something altogether more individual, combining formidable performance with a distinctly British sense of elegance, glamour and exclusivity. These were expensive, highly specified motor cars when new, intended for discerning buyers who appreciated effortless power and understated sophistication rather than overt displays of sporting aggression. Today, the Super V8 offers an extraordinary amount of motor car for the money, with levels of performance, craftsmanship and luxury that would command a considerable premium in a contemporary equivalent.
From a market perspective, the early supercharged XF models remain particularly interesting, not least because of the considerable depreciation they have experienced since leaving the showroom. For enthusiasts, this creates an opportunity to acquire a genuinely prestigious, high-performance Jaguar at a fraction of its original cost. While mainstream luxury saloons have traditionally suffered substantial depreciation, well-preserved, low-mileage examples of the more desirable V8 variants have qualities that may increasingly appeal to collectors and enthusiasts. Their relatively limited presence in the New Zealand market, combined with the gradual disappearance of large-capacity petrol engines from modern luxury cars, adds another dimension to their appeal. Nevertheless, condition, maintenance history and ongoing ownership costs remain important considerations, and these models should be appreciated primarily for the exceptional motoring experience they offer rather than any expectation of immediate investment returns.
Perhaps the greatest attraction of the XF Super V8 is the sense of occasion it brings to ownership. There is an unmistakable glamour associated with a powerful Jaguar, a combination of sporting pedigree, aristocratic elegance and quiet confidence that few manufacturers have successfully replicated. It is a motor car equally suited to arriving at an exclusive occasion as it is to covering vast distances with remarkable ease, offering its occupants an atmosphere of luxury while concealing genuinely impressive performance beneath its elegant exterior. As the motoring world moves increasingly towards electrification and smaller-capacity engines, Jaguars such as the Super V8 represent a particularly appealing chapter in the marque’s history.
For the enthusiast who appreciates character, individuality and traditional grand touring luxury, these supercharged Jaguars offer an increasingly uncommon experience at what remains a remarkably accessible price point.
