Description
Lean and Voluptuous, the Z4 is an exhilarating sports car and one of the better choices for Touring.
BMW has long made machines that embody its “Ultimate Driving Machine” motto and this enticing drive certainly has the ability to Bring It On.
You seek the traditional precision and excitement of a BMW driving experience in a purely sporting platform. As with other BMW hardtop convertibles, the Z4 offers the option of going top-down with the sun on your face and the wind in your hair, with the option of deploying the power hardtop should the weather turn sour or the sun become too intense.
Nothing drives quite like a BMW and, given the Z4’s inherent sportiness, it’s especially true of this car.

Its a great Touring car for two adults, there’s not room for much else.
However, the lack of interior space, makes up for in storage; there’s a small cargo shelf behind the seats, a low cargo net to trap objects nearby, and a center console tray, as well as clam-shell door pockets. And you’re best to pack for that weekend trip with smaller bags; the boot space is big enough for a couple of carry-on suitcases, plus a camera bag or several duffels.
The BMW Z4 3.0i is increasingly recognised as one of BMW’s emerging modern classics. Featuring the legendary naturally aspirated M54 straight-six engine, classic rear-wheel drive, distinctive styling by Chris Bangle and an analogue driving experience that is becoming increasingly rare, well-presented examples continue to attract growing interest from enthusiasts and collectors alike.
As the automotive industry moves towards smaller turbocharged engines and electrification, original, low-kilometre examples such as this are becoming harder to find. While no future values can ever be guaranteed, the Z4 3.0i possesses many of the characteristics that have historically made BMW sports cars highly collectible, strong engineering, timeless design, enjoyable performance and limited availability of quality examples.
For the discerning buyer, it represents not only an exceptional sports car to own and enjoy today, but also a modern classic with genuine long-term appeal.
A great wee Sports Car packed with Fun – Definitely a Future Classic Car.
Market Review
The 2003 BMW Z4 3.0i represents an increasingly appealing point in BMW’s modern-classic timeline. As one of the earliest examples of the E85-generation Z4, it combined distinctive Chris Bangle-era styling with BMW’s highly regarded 3.0-litre naturally aspirated straight-six. Producing around 170 kW (228 hp), the 3.0i offered strong performance without sacrificing the traditional qualities enthusiasts associate with BMW roadsters: rear-wheel drive, balanced handling, a responsive six-cylinder engine and a relatively compact two-seat body. Early 3.0-litre cars are particularly attractive because they sit at the top end of the original Z4 range and deliver a noticeably more characterful driving experience than the smaller-engined versions.
From a collector-market perspective, the Z4 3.0i remains relatively affordable, but good examples are beginning to make more sense as longer-term modern classics. The key distinction is increasingly between ordinary used cars and well-preserved, low-mileage examples with strong history, original specification and desirable equipment. As naturally aspirated six-cylinder BMWs become less common, the combination of the Z4’s distinctive design, open-top motoring and traditional BMW drivetrain should strengthen its enthusiast appeal. While it is unlikely to command the values of the considerably rarer Z4 M, an excellent 3.0i offers an accessible entry into collectible early-2000s BMW ownership and has considerably more future-classic potential than its current values might suggest.
