Description

The 2000 Jaguar XKR V8 Supercharged Convertible represents a magnificent combination of British elegance, exhilarating performance and refined open-top motoring. Introduced as the high-performance flagship of Jaguar’s XK range, the XKR took the already beautiful lines of the XK8 and added a considerably more sporting character. With its long, sculptured bonnet, graceful curves, distinctive mesh grille and purposeful stance, the XKR remains one of the most attractive grand touring convertibles of its era, successfully blending traditional Jaguar styling with modern engineering.

Beneath that elegant bonnet lies Jaguar’s formidable 4.0-litre supercharged AJ-V8 engine, producing approximately 370bhp (276kW) and delivering effortless acceleration through a smooth five-speed automatic transmission. Capable of reaching 100km/h from rest in around 5.6 seconds, the XKR offered genuine sports car performance while retaining the refinement, comfort and relaxed cruising ability expected of a luxury Jaguar. Its supercharged V8 provides an intoxicating combination of immediate throttle response, abundant torque and a distinctive exhaust note, making every journey a memorable experience, particularly with the electrically operated convertible roof lowered.

Today, the XKR Convertible is increasingly appreciated as a modern classic, representing an era when Jaguar combined timeless design with impressive performance and traditional craftsmanship. Its beautifully appointed interior, featuring supple leather upholstery, polished timber veneers and classic instrumentation, provides a welcoming environment that remains unmistakably Jaguar. With its combination of exclusivity, supercharged V8 performance and open-air driving pleasure, the 2000 Jaguar XKR Convertible offers enthusiasts an appealing opportunity to enjoy a sophisticated British grand tourer that continues to turn heads more than a quarter of a century after its introduction.

About this Vehicle

British Elegance with a Supercharged Heart

There is something undeniably special about a supercharged Jaguar, and this stunning 2000 XKR Convertible is a wonderful example of everything that makes these British grand tourers so desirable. Combining timeless styling, exhilarating V8 performance and traditional Jaguar luxury, the XKR offers an exceptional driving experience that few modern motor cars can replicate. Whether enjoyed as a weekend indulgence or a comfortable long-distance grand tourer, this Jaguar delivers a compelling combination of performance, refinement and comfort without forcing a compromise between them.

Beneath its beautifully sculptured bonnet sits Jaguar’s formidable 4.0-litre supercharged V8 engine, producing approximately 370bhp and delivering effortless acceleration through its smooth five-speed automatic transmission. Performance is impressive, yet equally remarkable is just how civilised this motor car remains at cruising speeds. The supercharged V8 provides tremendous reserves of power whenever required, while the suspension, steering and overall road manners reflect Jaguar’s long-established reputation for building sophisticated high-performance grand tourers.

Visually, the XKR is simply timeless. Its long bonnet, flowing curves and unmistakable feline styling give it a presence that remains every bit as appealing today as when it first appeared. The distinctive mesh grille, subtle ‘R’ badging and sporting details distinguish it from the standard XK8 without compromising the elegance of the original design. With the roof lowered, it is arguably one of the most beautiful open-top Jaguars of its generation.

Highlights of This Particular Example
  • STUNNING CONDITION – An exceptionally well-presented example that reflects the care and attention it has received over the years.
  • LOW MILEAGE – A particularly appealing low-mileage example of this increasingly collectable Jaguar.
  • IMPORTED BY WAIMAK CLASSIC CARS – Personally imported from Japan by us some years ago.
  • IMPORTANT PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE COMPLETED – During our ownership, the water pump was replaced and the original plastic timing-chain tensioners were upgraded to alloy replacements.
  • SPECIALIST WORKMANSHIP – Mechanical work was undertaken by Messrs John Finlay Motors in Christchurch, providing additional reassurance regarding these well-known AJ-V8 maintenance considerations.
  • SUPERCHARGED V8 PERFORMANCE – A magnificent 4.0-litre engine delivering abundant torque, effortless acceleration and a wonderfully refined driving experience.
  • EXCELLENT ROAD MANNERS – Plenty of grip, responsive steering and beautifully balanced handling, complemented by the supple ride expected of a genuine Jaguar grand tourer.
  • BEAUTIFULLY APPOINTED INTERIOR – Luxurious leather seating, polished timber veneers, quality trim and a pleasing sound system create a cabin that is both elegant and inviting.
  • OPEN-TOP MOTORING – The electrically operated convertible roof transforms this sophisticated grand tourer into a wonderful open-air driving experience.
  • EXCEPTIONAL PRESENTATION – A seriously beautiful Jaguar and, in our opinion, an example that would be difficult to better.
A Driving Experience Worth Savouring

Slip behind the wheel and the appeal becomes immediately apparent. The cabin is everything one expects of a traditional Jaguar, with comfortable leather seats, beautifully finished timber and an atmosphere of understated British luxury. Unlike more uncompromising sports cars, the XKR places just as much emphasis on comfort and refinement as it does on outright performance. It is a motor car that encourages you to enjoy the journey rather than simply concentrate on the destination.

On the road, the XKR is equally impressive. The steering is responsive, the handling inspires confidence and the supercharged V8 provides an almost effortless surge of acceleration. Yet settle into a relaxed cruising speed and the Jaguar becomes remarkably composed and civilised. This is precisely what makes the XKR such a rewarding motor car to own: exciting when you want it to be, beautifully mannered when you don’t.

Our View

This is a seriously beautiful Jaguar and one that we would be hard-pressed to replace with another of comparable presentation and appeal. The fact that we imported this motor car ourselves, have retained it in our ownership and attended to important preventative mechanical work only adds to its attraction.

For anyone seeking a fast, well-mannered British sports convertible with outstanding pedigree, tremendous character and genuine future-classic potential, this 2000 Jaguar XKR V8 Supercharged Convertible makes a compelling proposition.

Fast, classy, beautifully styled and wonderfully comfortable, this is a Jaguar to be enjoyed today and treasured for years to come.

Market Review

We have long considered the early supercharged XKRs to be among the most underrated modern Jaguars. They offer tremendous performance, timeless styling, genuine British pedigree and a level of craftsmanship that makes them particularly appealing to enthusiasts seeking something a little different.

Importantly, these cars also represent outstanding value in today’s classic car market. Well-preserved, low-mileage examples are becoming increasingly interesting as the XKR moves beyond its used-car years and begins establishing itself as a genuine modern collectible. The supercharged V8 Convertible, in particular, has all the ingredients collectors traditionally look for: performance, exclusivity, beautiful styling and an unmistakable sense of occasion.

While future values can never be guaranteed, we believe there is considerable potential for exceptional early XKRs to appreciate over the coming decade. Indeed, it would not surprise us to see the finest examples commanding substantially higher prices as collector interest develops. Whether that translates into a doubling of today’s values remains to be seen, but the fundamentals are certainly encouraging.
