Description
Introduced in 1980, the Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit marked the beginning of a new era for the legendary British marque, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern engineering.
By 1986, the Silver Spirit had firmly established itself as one of the world’s finest luxury saloons, offering an effortless combination of refinement, comfort and understated prestige. Hand-built at Rolls-Royce’s Crewe factory, every example reflected the marque’s uncompromising commitment to quality and attention to detail.
Powered by Rolls-Royce’s renowned 6.75-litre V8 engine paired with a smooth automatic transmission, the Silver Spirit delivers the effortless, whisper-quiet performance for which the marque is famous. Its advanced self-levelling suspension provides the celebrated “magic carpet ride,” while power-assisted steering and refined road manners make it surprisingly easy to drive despite its imposing presence.
Inside, the Silver Spirit is a showcase of traditional British luxury. Sumptuous Connolly leather upholstery, beautifully matched burr walnut veneers, deep Wilton carpets and meticulous hand-finished detailing create an atmosphere of timeless elegance. More than simply a motor car, the 1986 Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit represents a lifestyle of grace, sophistication and engineering excellence that remains every bit as captivating today as when it first left the factory.

About this Vehicle
New Zealand New | One Private Owner for 40 Years | Exceptionally Low Original Mileage | Outstanding Originality
The Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit represents an era when luxury motoring was defined by craftsmanship, refinement and an uncompromising pursuit of excellence. Introduced in 1980 as the successor to the Silver Shadow, the Silver Spirit continued the proud traditions of the world’s most prestigious motor car manufacturer, combining timeless British elegance with engineering sophistication and effortless performance. More than four decades later, beautifully preserved examples remain a testament to the extraordinary standards for which Rolls-Royce has long been celebrated.
We are delighted to present this truly exceptional 1986 Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit, supplied new in New Zealand and remarkably retained by just one private owner for the past forty years. Showing exceptionally low original mileage and presented in magnificent, highly original condition throughout, this is unquestionably one of the most impressive examples of the model we have had the pleasure of offering.
A Remarkable Example of Preservation and Originality
What makes this particular Silver Spirit so special is not simply its beautiful presentation, but the extraordinary level of originality it has retained. Finding a forty-year-old Rolls-Royce in such outstanding condition is increasingly uncommon, particularly one that has escaped the modifications, cosmetic alterations and extensive restoration work so often encountered in vehicles of this age.
Its elegant coachwork remains exceptionally straight, with excellent panel alignment and no apparent rust. Believed to retain its full original factory paintwork, the finish displays a deep, lustrous shine that beautifully complements the Silver Spirit’s imposing yet graceful proportions.
The interior is equally impressive, showcasing the finest traditional British craftsmanship. Supple Connolly leather, magnificent hand-finished burr walnut veneers and beautifully preserved Wilton wool carpets create an atmosphere of understated luxury that few modern motor cars can replicate.

There is something particularly special about experiencing a Rolls-Royce from this period in such original condition. The reassuring weight of the doors, the aroma of genuine Connolly leather, the richness of the polished walnut and the extraordinary smoothness of the driving experience are all reminders of an age when traditional craftsmanship and engineering excellence took precedence over fashion and passing trends.
An Increasingly Collectible Classic
As the years pass, truly original examples of the Silver Spirit are becoming increasingly difficult to source. While many have survived, relatively few can claim the combination of exceptionally low mileage, long-term single ownership, outstanding preservation and originality offered by this particular motor car.
For the discerning Rolls-Royce enthusiast or collector, these qualities are of considerable importance. Originality, provenance and condition remain fundamental considerations in the classic car market, and exceptionally well-preserved examples will always distinguish themselves from those requiring significant restoration or refurbishment.
This magnificent 1986 Silver Spirit would make a worthy addition to any significant collection, while remaining equally suited to occasional weekend motoring, prestigious classic car gatherings or simply the pleasure of owning and appreciating one of Britain’s finest luxury automobiles.
Our Assessment
At Waimak Classic Cars, we have encountered many remarkable motor cars over the years, but it is not often that an example of this age, prestige and calibre presents itself in such extraordinary original condition.
With forty years of single private ownership, exceptionally low original mileage, outstanding presentation and its desirable New Zealand-new provenance, this Silver Spirit possesses precisely the qualities that discerning collectors seek and that cannot easily be replicated through restoration.
An exceptional survivor from the golden era of traditional Rolls-Royce craftsmanship, and undoubtedly one of the finest original examples likely to be offered on today’s market.
For those seeking a truly special Silver Spirit, this is a motor car deserving of serious consideration. Quite simply, opportunities such as this are becoming increasingly rare.
Market Review
The Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit is steadily gaining recognition among collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate the elegance, prestige and traditional craftsmanship of Britain’s most celebrated luxury motor car manufacturer. Once regarded primarily as an affordable entry into Rolls-Royce ownership, the model is increasingly appreciated as a significant classic in its own right, representing an era of unparalleled luxury, glamour and refinement. While average examples remain relatively accessible, exceptionally original, low-mileage motor cars with impeccable provenance and long-term ownership histories are becoming increasingly scarce. Internationally, collector interest continues to favour originality and preservation, with the finest examples commanding a premium over their more ordinary counterparts. As the surviving population ages, finding a Silver Spirit retaining its original character, finishes and appointments in such remarkable condition becomes an increasingly difficult proposition.
From an investment and collectability perspective, the Silver Spirit offers an intriguing opportunity within the established Rolls-Royce market. Its magnificent presence, legendary 6.75-litre V8, sumptuous Connolly leather upholstery and exquisite burr walnut craftsmanship evoke an age when luxury motoring was synonymous with exclusivity, sophistication and understated wealth. Although values have historically remained modest relative to some earlier Rolls-Royce models, the very best preserved examples have the potential to attract growing international interest and stronger long-term appreciation as collectors increasingly recognise their rarity. This particular New Zealand-new Silver Spirit, with forty years of single private ownership, exceptionally low original mileage and outstanding originality, possesses the qualities most likely to distinguish it in an increasingly discerning marketplace. A magnificent expression of British motoring aristocracy, it offers not merely the pleasure and prestige of Rolls-Royce ownership, but the opportunity to acquire an exceptional survivor whose quality and provenance should continue to underpin its desirability for years to come.
