Description
Few British sports cars possess the presence, character and sheer sense of occasion of the Triumph TR6!
Often described as the last of the great “hairy-chested” British roadsters, the TR6 combined muscular styling, six-cylinder performance and traditional open-top motoring into a package that has remained enormously popular with enthusiasts for more than half a century.
Introduced in 1969, the TR6 brought a fresh, purposeful look to Triumph’s established TR formula. Its crisp Karmann-styled bodywork gave the car a wider, more aggressive stance, while beneath the skin remained the ingredients that had made the TR name famous: a strong 2.5-litre straight-six engine, rear-wheel drive and a chassis designed to reward an enthusiastic driver. In fuel-injected form, particularly, the TR6 offered genuinely impressive performance for a British sports car of its day.
But specifications tell only part of the story. The TR6 is a wonderfully mechanical car to drive, long bonnet stretching ahead, six-cylinder soundtrack close behind and an immediacy to the steering and controls that modern cars have largely engineered away. It was built for drivers who wanted to participate in the experience rather than simply be transported, and that combination of performance, simplicity and unmistakable British character continues to make the TR6 one of the most desirable and recognisable classic roadsters of its generation.

About this Vehicle
This TR6 offers genuine grunt and a truly invigorating driving experience.
The standard brakes perform confidently, while the independent rear suspension provides far more composed handling than earlier TR models with live axles. Solid and beautifully sorted, it drives exactly as a TR6 should.
The manual/overdrive gearbox is both positive and rewarding to use. Gear changes are a pleasure, especially when taking advantage of the torque from the sonorous straight-six. Hold the gears a little longer and you’re treated to a delicious, rasping exhaust note that defines the TR6 experience.
A superb driver’s car with excellent investment potential, this TR6 is ideal for someone who appreciates style, engineering, and classic open-top motoring. Every line and every angle contributes to its unmistakable character.
The TR6 ranks as one of the most popular and beloved British sports cars ever built. Underneath, it retained the proven TR5 mechanicals, fuel-injected straight-six engine and IRS chassis paired with a sharp new redesign by the German firm Karmann. The result is a car with timeless appeal and genuine sporting ability.
For anyone considering the pleasures of open-top British motoring, the TR6 is an excellent choice. Plus club and specialist support is exceptional.

Market Review
The Triumph TR6 occupies an important position in the classic British sports car market. Combining handsome Karmann styling, a charismatic 2.5-litre straight-six and traditional rear-wheel-drive roadster engineering, it delivers much of the character associated with considerably more expensive classics while remaining relatively accessible. This combination has helped the TR6 develop an enduring international following and strong collector appeal.
Values are heavily influenced by condition, specification, originality and provenance, with a noticeable distinction between average examples and genuinely exceptional cars. Fuel-injected models, overdrive-equipped cars, desirable factory specifications and well-preserved or properly restored examples are generally the cars collectors seek out. With restoration costs continuing to make high-quality cars difficult to replicate economically, buying the best available example can make considerable sense.
The TR6 also benefits from something that cannot be recreated: nostalgia. For many enthusiasts it represents the final expression of the traditional Triumph roadster; long bonnet, compact cockpit, manual gearbox, rear-wheel drive and that unmistakable six-cylinder soundtrack. Strong club support, excellent parts availability and an established international enthusiast community further enhance its appeal as a usable and maintainable classic.
From a collectibility perspective, the TR6 has all the ingredients enthusiasts traditionally look for: distinctive styling, an engaging driving experience, an established marque, mechanical simplicity and genuine period character. While not an exceptionally rare car, the best examples are becoming increasingly difficult to find, particularly those retaining originality, strong provenance and desirable specifications.
For the enthusiast wanting a recognised classic that can still be driven and enjoyed, the TR6 remains particularly compelling. It offers the styling, soundtrack and analogue experience collectors seek while remaining attainable compared with many iconic European sports cars of the same era. A high-quality TR6 therefore offers an attractive combination of usability, established collectibility, strong value retention and potential for longer-term appreciation.
