Description
The Jaguar E-Type remains one of the most celebrated sports cars ever produced, a timeless British motoring icon renowned for its breathtaking design, engineering excellence and exceptional performance. Introduced in 1961, the E-Type evolved through three distinct series, culminating in the magnificent Series 3 of 1971–1975. With its unmistakable long bonnet, elegant proportions and unmistakable road presence, the Series 3 represented the ultimate development of Jaguar’s legendary grand touring sports car.
At the heart of the 1972 Jaguar E-Type Series 3 lies Jaguar’s magnificent 5.3-litre V12 engine, delivering approximately 272 bhp in European specification and providing the effortless power, refinement and smoothness for which the marque became famous. Paired with the desirable four-speed manual gearbox, the V12 offers a particularly engaging driving experience, combining the sophistication of a luxury grand tourer with the involvement and character of a traditional British sports car. The manual transmission is especially appealing to enthusiasts who appreciate greater control and a more direct connection with the car.
Today, the Series 3 E-Type occupies a distinguished position in the classic car world, admired for its combination of V12 performance, iconic styling and genuine long-distance touring capability. While earlier six-cylinder E-Types are often celebrated for their sporting purity, the Series 3 offers a different proposition altogether: a more mature, powerful and refined interpretation of the original concept. For collectors and driving enthusiasts alike, a 1972 V12 manual represents an increasingly appreciated chapter in Jaguar’s remarkable motoring heritage.

About this Vehicle
Chassis Number: 1S50866
The final evolution of Jaguar’s legendary E-Type, the Series 3 represents a fascinating chapter in British motoring history. Introduced in 1971, the Series 3 transformed the E-Type from a thoroughbred sports car into a sophisticated, high-performance grand tourer. With its magnificent 5.3-litre V12 engine, improved accommodation and greater refinement, it was arguably the most accomplished and usable E-Type of them all.
Compared with its six-cylinder predecessors, the Series 3 was an entirely different proposition. Built on the longer 2+2 wheelbase, with increased cabin space and a wider track, the V12 offered considerably more comfort without compromising the performance expected of a Jaguar. With period performance figures suggesting 0–60 mph in approximately 6.4 seconds and a top speed approaching 142 mph, the Series 3 was certainly no slouch. Today, it remains one of the most accessible ways to experience the glamour, prestige and unmistakable character of the legendary E-Type.
We are delighted to offer this beautiful 1972 Jaguar E-Type Series 3 V12 Fixed Head Coupé 2+2, equipped with the highly desirable four-speed manual transmission. Presented in very good condition throughout, this is undoubtedly one of the nicest examples we have had the pleasure of offering. Best described as an older restoration that continues to present beautifully, the car reflects many years of careful ownership, regular maintenance and genuine appreciation for this iconic British motor car.
Originally manufactured in factory right-hand-drive configuration, this example was imported from South Africa and first registered in New Zealand in 1999. Remarkably, it has remained with the same New Zealand owner for the past 24 years. Equally impressive is the comprehensive documentation accompanying the vehicle, including an extensive file of maintenance records, historical information, books and factory documentation. Such provenance is particularly desirable in a classic of this calibre and provides valuable insight into the car’s history and ongoing upkeep.
Behind the wheel, this E-Type is an absolute delight. The magnificent V12 delivers effortless power accompanied by a wonderfully distinctive exhaust note, while the four-speed manual gearbox provides an engaging and rewarding driving experience. Power steering adds to its relaxed grand touring character, making this a classic that is equally enjoyable on winding country roads or longer journeys. Mechanically sound, beautifully presented and clearly cherished, this is a Jaguar that impresses as much on the road as it does standing still.

Market Review
Few classic motor cars capture the glamour, prestige and romance of motoring quite like the Jaguar E-Type. Universally recognised as one of the most beautiful automobiles ever created, the E-Type transcends generations, cultures and geographical boundaries. It represents far more than a means of transport; it is a statement of individuality, sophistication and lifestyle. Whether displayed in a distinguished collection, enjoyed on a leisurely country drive or admired at an exclusive motoring event, the E-Type commands attention and admiration wherever it goes. Its association with the golden age of British motoring, combined with Jaguar’s iconic international reputation, has established it as one of the world’s most desirable and recognisable collector cars.
From an investment perspective, the Jaguar E-Type occupies an enviable position within the international classic car market. Unlike modern vehicles that typically depreciate, established collector cars offer the potential for long-term capital appreciation, particularly when supported by historical significance, limited production and enduring international demand. Tangible assets such as desirable classic automobiles can also provide a degree of diversification from conventional financial investments and may offer some protection against inflation over extended periods, although values remain subject to market fluctuations. The V12-powered Series 3, particularly examples equipped with the desirable manual gearbox, offers an attractive combination of performance, collectability and relative affordability compared with certain earlier E-Type variants. As appreciation for these sophisticated grand tourers continues to develop, well-preserved examples with sound provenance remain worthy of serious consideration.
Importantly, the E-Type benefits from something many classic automobiles simply cannot match: a truly international following supported by an established network of marque specialists, restoration businesses, parts suppliers, enthusiast clubs and dedicated collectors. From Britain and continental Europe to North America, Australia and New Zealand, the Jaguar name carries considerable heritage, prestige and recognition. This worldwide infrastructure contributes significantly to the E-Type’s long-term appeal, helping owners maintain, restore and enjoy their cars while providing access to an international marketplace. Ultimately, the Jaguar E-Type represents that rare combination of motoring pleasure, timeless elegance and potential investment value – a classic that can be enjoyed today, admired tomorrow and preserved for future generations.
