Description
Few motor cars have had such a profound influence on the automotive world as the original Morris Mini.
Introduced in 1959 and designed by the brilliant Sir Alec Issigonis, the Mini revolutionised small-car motoring with its ingenious transverse-engine, front-wheel-drive layout, remarkable use of interior space and wonderfully distinctive styling. What began as a practical and economical solution to Britain’s demand for affordable transportation quickly became a cultural phenomenon, capturing the imagination of motorists from every walk of life. By 1967, the final year of Mark I production, the Mini had firmly established itself as one of Britain’s greatest automotive achievements, combining simplicity, practicality and an infectious driving character that few cars, regardless of price, could match.
The 1967 Morris Mini Mk1 represents the culmination of the original Mini design before the introduction of the updated Mark II later that year. Its instantly recognisable appearance, with external door hinges, sliding side windows, compact proportions and characteristic ten-inch wheels, embodies everything that made the early Minis so endearing. Beneath its modest exterior lies an extraordinarily clever piece of engineering, with independent rubber-cone suspension, responsive steering and a remarkably spacious cabin for such a diminutive motor car. Light, nimble and surprisingly entertaining to drive, the Mini proved that genuine motoring enjoyment had little to do with engine capacity or outright speed. Its outstanding handling also provided the foundation for the legendary Mini Cooper, which famously conquered the Monte Carlo Rally and helped establish the Mini’s remarkable international reputation.
Today, the Morris Mini Mk1 is regarded as one of the most significant and collectible small cars of the twentieth century, with its historical importance extending far beyond the British motor industry. Early examples have become increasingly sought after by enthusiasts who appreciate their unmistakable character, mechanical simplicity and enduring appeal. In New Zealand, where Minis became a familiar sight on our roads throughout the 1960s and 1970s, these charming little cars evoke particularly fond memories of an era when motoring was uncomplicated, affordable and full of personality. The 1967 model is especially appealing as one of the last of the original Mark I generation, retaining the distinctive features that collectors value so highly. More than half a century later, the original Mini remains an absolute delight to own and drive, a genuine piece of motoring history that continues to attract admiration wherever it goes.

About this Vehicle
Just occasionally, a truly exceptional example of a classic motor car comes onto the market, and this beautiful 1967 Morris Mini Mk1 is certainly one of them.
Having covered just 39,115 miles from new, and benefiting from a remarkable history of long-term ownership and careful preservation, this is a Mini that stands apart from the ordinary. Its stunning presentation, excellent mechanical condition and wonderfully original character reflect the care and attention it has received throughout its life. Finding another example of this calibre would be no easy task, particularly one with such an appealing ownership history.
What makes this particular Mini especially interesting is its remarkably settled ownership record. The car has had just four long-term owners, with the first two belonging to the same family, who retained it for an extraordinary 39 years. Its third owner enjoyed the car for more than six years, during which time it underwent considerable mechanical refurbishment and cosmetic restoration. The vehicle was stripped down and repainted, with new rubber components and five brand-new tyres fitted, bringing it to the impressive standard in which it presents today. We subsequently acquired the Mini and sold it to its fourth owner, who cherished it for the following 11 years before we recently had the pleasure of purchasing it back. It is always particularly satisfying to reacquire a motor car that we know and have previously handled, especially one that has continued to be so well cared for.
The overall condition of this Morris Mini is quite simply outstanding. The paintwork is stunning, with an excellent finish that beautifully complements the unmistakable lines of the original Mk1. Exterior rubber seals, chrome fittings and trim are all in very good order, while the interior remains remarkably well preserved. Mechanically, the car is sound, starting readily, running smoothly and driving exceptionally well. There is something wonderfully rewarding about driving a properly sorted early Mini, and this particular example delivers exactly the experience that made these little cars so popular in the first place.

A Mini With a Special Place in Motoring History
The original Mini was marketed under both the Austin and Morris names by the British Motor Corporation, with the Morris version initially known as the Mini-Minor. The name itself was a clever progression from the established Morris Minor, reflecting the new car’s even smaller dimensions. By 1969, Mini had become a marque in its own right, such was the extraordinary success and recognition of this revolutionary little motor car.
During the swinging sixties, the Mini became far more than simply an economical means of transport. It was embraced by celebrities, musicians, film stars and ordinary motorists alike, becoming a genuine symbol of British popular culture. Its clever engineering, cheeky personality and remarkable versatility helped establish a following that has endured for generations. Today, the earliest Mk1 examples are particularly desirable, retaining the external door hinges, sliding windows and distinctive styling details that make them immediately recognisable.
Our Thoughts
We have handled many classic Minis over the years, but this is one of those examples that genuinely deserves special attention. It is not simply another old Mini that has survived the passage of time. It is a beautifully presented, carefully maintained and remarkably low-mileage example with a history that speaks for itself. The fact that its first two owners kept the car within the same family for 39 years, followed by two further lengthy periods of ownership, says a great deal about the affection these little cars inspire.
The market for early Minis has strengthened considerably over the years, particularly for genuine Mk1 examples in exceptional condition. As the cost of restoring these cars continues to rise, finding one that has already benefited from substantial mechanical and cosmetic attention becomes increasingly appealing. While future values can never be guaranteed, we believe well-preserved, low-mileage Mk1 Minis with good ownership histories have excellent long-term collector appeal.
This is not your average Mini. With just 39,115 miles recorded, four long-term owners, stunning paintwork, excellent mechanical condition and an ownership history that we know personally, this is a very special little motor car. It is genuinely difficult to fault and drives every bit as well as it looks.
For us, finding the right home for this Mini is particularly important. It deserves an enthusiast who recognises its quality, appreciates its history and will continue to preserve and enjoy it for years to come.
A wonderful example of the original Morris Mini Mk1, offering the rare combination of outstanding condition, low mileage, documented long-term ownership and genuine driving enjoyment.
We absolutely love this wee car.
Market Review
Few classic motor cars enjoy the universal recognition and enduring popularity of the original Mini. More than six decades after its introduction, its appeal transcends generations, nationalities and traditional collecting circles, making it one of the most recognisable and celebrated vehicles in automotive history. While millions of Minis were produced over the model’s lengthy production life, genuine first-generation Mk1 examples represent an increasingly scarce proportion of those surviving today. Many succumbed to corrosion, neglect or extensive modification, while others were simply used up and discarded when their commercial value was negligible. Consequently, finding an authentic Mk1 in exceptional condition has become considerably more challenging. The model enjoys a particularly enthusiastic following in Britain, Australia and New Zealand, supported by an established international network of clubs, specialists and parts suppliers. Its instantly recognisable design, cultural significance and worldwide following provide a strong foundation for its continued desirability among collectors and enthusiasts.
