Description
Few British sports cars capture the glamour, elegance and sporting spirit of the 1950s quite like the legendary Jaguar XK series!
Widely regarded as among the most iconic sports cars of their generation, the XK120, XK140 and XK150 have long enjoyed an enthusiastic international following and remain highly desirable among collectors and motoring enthusiasts. Introduced in 1957, the XK150 represented the final and most developed chapter of this celebrated dynasty, combining the beautiful styling and outstanding performance of its predecessors with significant improvements in engineering, comfort and refinement. With its sweeping lines, long bonnet and unmistakable Jaguar presence, the XK150 Open Two-Seater remains one of the most attractive and distinguished British roadsters ever produced.
The XK150 introduced several important technological advances over the earlier XK120 and XK140 models, making it a considerably more refined and practical sports car. Among its most significant improvements were four-wheel Dunlop disc brakes, making it one of the earliest volume-production motor cars to feature this advanced braking system. The XK150 also introduced a wider and more spacious cockpit, providing noticeably improved accommodation for taller and larger drivers. For the first time in Jaguar’s XK roadster range, the Open Two-Seater featured wind-up side windows, replacing the detachable sidescreens of its predecessors. Its cleverly designed folding hood could be lowered completely and stowed neatly behind the seats, preserving the car’s beautiful open-top profile and delivering the exhilarating motoring experience for which Jaguar roadsters became famous.
Exclusivity is another important part of the XK150 OTS’s enduring appeal. With just 2,265 Open Two-Seater examples produced, the model was manufactured in considerably smaller numbers than the corresponding XK120 and XK140 roadsters, making it one of the rarer members of the celebrated XK family. It has been estimated that fewer than 1,500 survive worldwide today, although precise surviving numbers are difficult to verify.
In New Zealand, the XK150 OTS is an especially uncommon sight, with local estimates suggesting approximately seven examples in the country. Such rarity, combined with its outstanding sporting pedigree, timeless styling and international collector appeal, makes the 1958 Jaguar XK150 OTS a particularly special motor car. Representing the culmination of Jaguar’s magnificent 1950s XK sports car era, it offers an exceptional combination of prestige, exclusivity and the unmistakable pleasure of classic open-top motoring.

The 1958 XK150 OTS represents the final evolution of Jaguar Cars’ classic XK sports car line, combining period racing-derived engineering with increasingly modern road manners. In both SE or S specification, it becomes a genuinely fast grand touring sports car even by today’s standards.
Beyond its performance credentials, the XK150 OTS is widely regarded as one of the most elegant open-top British sports cars of its era, with a timeless design that has aged into true classic status. Its combination of hand-built craftsmanship, motorsport-derived engineering, and long-hood grand touring proportions places it firmly among the most desirable post-war Jaguars.
Today, well-presented examples continue to attract strong international interest, with values reflecting both increasing scarcity and sustained collector demand. As more cars move into long-term private collections, the best examples, particularly those with strong provenance, matching numbers, and documented history, are becoming increasingly difficult to source.

As a result, it remains a highly collectible and emotionally compelling classic, with long-term appreciation potential supported by enduring global desirability.

Market Review
The 1958 Jaguar XK150 Open Two-Seater represents one of the most glamorous and desirable British sports cars of the post-war era, combining breathtaking styling, exceptional engineering and the unmistakable prestige of the Jaguar marque.
As the final evolution of Jaguar’s celebrated XK sports car dynasty, the XK150 OTS occupies a particularly important place in motoring history, bridging the gap between the legendary XK120 and XK140 and the arrival of the revolutionary E-Type in 1961. Its elegant open coachwork, long sweeping bonnet and purposeful sporting stance capture the romance of 1950s motoring, an era when Jaguar was enjoying extraordinary international success both on the road and at Le Mans. Today, the OTS remains especially sought after by collectors who appreciate its sporting character, relative rarity and timeless appeal. With an established following throughout the United Kingdom, Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand, the XK150 OTS enjoys genuine international recognition and continues to attract discerning enthusiasts seeking an iconic British open sports car.
From a market and investment perspective, the XK150 OTS has traditionally commanded a significant premium over its Fixed Head Coupé counterpart, reflecting the greater desirability of its open two-seater body style and its appeal to collectors worldwide. Values vary considerably depending on engine specification, originality, matching numbers, provenance, restoration quality and overall presentation. Internationally, well-presented examples can command substantial six-figure sums in New Zealand dollars, with exceptional cars, particularly those in desirable Special Equipment or S specifications, attracting further premiums. The strongest examples are generally those retaining their original mechanical identity, supported by comprehensive documentation and restored or maintained to a high standard. While the international collector car market naturally experiences fluctuations, the XK150 OTS benefits from the enduring prestige of the Jaguar name, an established worldwide enthusiast community and its historical importance as one of the last great traditional British roadsters. For the discerning buyer, a carefully selected example offers the prospect of long-term value retention and potential capital appreciation, although, as with any collectible motor car, future values cannot be guaranteed.
Beyond its investment and collector appeal, the XK150 OTS delivers a driving experience that few modern motor cars can replicate. With its magnificent twin-overhead-camshaft straight-six engine, responsive handling, four-wheel disc brakes and exhilarating open-air motoring character, it offers a wonderful combination of sporting performance and refined grand touring ability. The sound of its legendary XK engine under acceleration, the view along its beautifully sculpted bonnet and the sheer pleasure of driving with the hood lowered create a genuine sense of occasion. Equally, on a leisurely country drive, a classic motoring rally or the lawns of a prestigious concours event, the XK150 OTS possesses an elegance and presence that continues to turn heads wherever it appears. For the true motoring connoisseur, the 1958 Jaguar XK150 OTS is far more than an investment or a collector’s item; it is a magnificent expression of British sporting heritage, offering glamour, exclusivity and the enduring pleasure of owning and driving one of Jaguar’s most celebrated open sports cars.
